Reigning IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti is to return
to the series in 2009, driving for former rival
Chip Ganassi at the expense of Dan Wheldon who moves to Panther. The news means that Franchitti will race as the team-mate of Scott Dixon, who he beat to the title last year.
Justin Wilson won the Detroit Indy Grand Prix
at Belle Isle to score his first IRL victory
- but only after Helio Castroneves was ordered to surrender the lead for blocking the Englishman’s overtaking attempts.
Danica Patrick is what she is - a
talented driver who's up the front on merit but
not quite good enough to be one of the very best. In F1 terms, she's Nick Heidfeld not Lewis Hamilton. But it seems that, for a lot of people, if she can't be perfect she's not fit to be let out of the house. I hate that attitude, and as a result I love this Jack Arute column on the IndyCar site.
After 14 years, more than 230 races and
13 wins (so far), Red Bull Racing's David Coulthard
has announced his retirement from Formula One.

Darren Manning’s IndyCar drive with Foyt Enterprises is
in danger after his retirement from the Iowa Corn
Indy 250 due to exhaustion led to a pitlane row between driver and boss.
Of all the many adverts featuring Lewis Hamilton,
the best since last season’s classic with Fernando Alonso
and Mika Häkkinen is surely the new Abbey Airfix kit one.

Dan Wheldon has been cleared as fit to
run in qualifying for the Bombardier Learjet 550k despite
a high-speed crash that left him briefly pinned in his overturned car.

"The Indy500 is a big American affair like
hamburgers, the Monaco GP is a private race for
the Prince, residents and invited VIPs," says Monaco Grand Prix historian Roy Hulsbergen in this exclusive, anecdote-packed, interview published in the run-up to both big races.

"You don’t need to know much more about
Rosset other than the fact his Tyrrell mechanics used
to swap the letters ‘R’ and ‘T’ of his surname around on his car’s stickers." Brilliant!

If you can't watch the Turkish Grand Prix
on TV, follow it as it happens on our
live blog here. On the surface it looks like more of the same - Felipe Massa on pole for the third year running and seemingly on his way to another big stack of points for Ferrari. But look a little deeper and this has the potential to be a really interesting race.

To mark the fact that only six cars
finished the Australian Grand Prix, britsonpole.com decided for a
bit of fun to use just six words to sum up the performance of each driver and team... see if you can do better in the comments.

So, you’ve stocked up on food and booze,
set the alarm clock (or planned to stay up
through the night) and you’re all set for a hopefully thrilling season opener in Melbourne. Who are the runners, riders and also-rans for the coming season, and who will you be backing for the drivers’ and constructors’ championships? Here’s our take on the proceedings at Brits on Pole.
Seven British drivers lined up for the start
of the American open wheel season last year, the
final campaign to see the sport split between the IRL and Champ Car. Now, with the first unified season on the horizon, fansite 'Brits on Pole' looks at their prospects for 2008.

Interesting piece looking at whether the IRL /
Champ Car merger has come too late to save
open wheel racing in the US. He says: "To Billy-Bob of Waynesville, Indycar racing is an inferior NASCAR feeder series, populated by Democrat-voting, book-reading, lefties."
