Reigning IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti is to return to the series in 2009, driving for former rival Chip Ganassi at the expense of Dan Wheldon who moves to Panther. The news means that Franchitti will race as the team-mate of Scott Dixon, who he beat to the title last year.

Danica Patrick is what she is - a talented driver who's up the front on merit but not quite good enough to be one of the very best. In F1 terms, she's Nick Heidfeld not Lewis Hamilton. But it seems that, for a lot of people, if she can't be perfect she's not fit to be let out of the house. I hate that attitude, and as a result I love this Jack Arute column on the IndyCar site.

If you can't watch the Turkish Grand Prix on TV, follow it as it happens on our live blog here. On the surface it looks like more of the same - Felipe Massa on pole for the third year running and seemingly on his way to another big stack of points for Ferrari. But look a little deeper and this has the potential to be a really interesting race.

Interesting piece looking at whether the IRL / Champ Car merger has come too late to save open wheel racing in the US. He says: "To Billy-Bob of Waynesville, Indycar racing is an inferior NASCAR feeder series, populated by Democrat-voting, book-reading, lefties."
