An in-depth look at the new spread offense
that Duke has been using so far this season.
Very similar to the one used by the Phoenix Suns.
Though coach Matt Painter won't admit it, Purdue's
win over Louisville was a big one. Yes, Louisville
was depleted, but they were still ranked and still had a great defense. Purdue was able to overcome Louisville's pressure defense for the win, see exactly how.
Texas uses a dribble weave motion offense to
get their guards A.J. Abrams and D.J. Augustin in
great position to make plays.
USC used a triangle-and-2 defense and just about
beat Memphis last night in OT. In fact, USC
should`ve won if it weren`t for a missed free-throw to win at the end of regulation. USC held Derrick Rose to just 9 points and Chris Douglas-Roberts to 10 points.
Dwight Howard is simply a man amongst boys.
Here he posterizes the Phoenix Suns off of the
Pick and Roll. The Magic would lose by two in the end though.
One of the reasons why Duke has been
unbeaten so far has been their ability to force
turnovers and score easy baskets. Using a full-court man-to-man press, Duke has surprised many teams so far forcing many turnovers leading to points, such as the 3-pointer in this sequence.
Indiana beat Georgia Tech in a very exciting
game that went back and forth all game. Indiana's
ability to score in transition was one of the main reasons why they were able to win. This was one of those big plays made on the break.
The Bucks were in a real dogfight tonight
against the mighty Mavs, but a late stand using
the switching 3-2 zone helped to keep the Mavs at bay and win the game.
The Utah Jazz are one of the teams
that run motion sets with lots of off-ball cutting
and screening. It's refreshing to watch great offense executed by great players. This is part of the reason why Jerry Sloan is the longest tenured coach in the NBA. His teams play the game, the way it is supposed to be played.
Rick Pitino is legendary for his pressing defenses
and against Jackson St. it was in full display.
While most people emphasize stealing the ball, pressure defense forces the opposing team to play at a pace that will generate more than just steals.
While Doug West's 40 points will get most
of the pub, Chris Paul was the guy that
made most of the key plays to help the Hornets to their best start in franchise history.
John Calipari talks to ESPN about the new
offense he has implemented at Memphis, dubbed "Princeton on
Steroids".
Michigan fans got their first real look at
the new 5-out motion offense John Beilein brings over
from West Virginia. Fans should get used to plenty of 3-pointers. Michigan trounced Brown for their second win of the new season.
Lebron James takes the long rebound coast-to-coast through
two defenders for the dunk late in the game
against the Kings. The Cavs would win the game 93-91.
I have no doubt that if Chauncey Billups
takes the open 3-pointer at the top of the
key, the Pistons tie the game and possibly win in OT, they owe Luol Deng on this play.
Kansas lost to Bradley in the first round
of the 2006 NCAA Tournament, but I liked the
way Kansas ran their 1-2-2 zone that year.
Antoine Wright of the NJ Nets displays a
nice ball-fake move to beat the rotation and help
the Nets beat the 76ers to bounce back after an ugly loss to the Raptors.
Kansas head coach Bill Self's name has become
synonymous with the hi-lo motion offense. Though fairly complex,
the hi-lo is a very efficient offense utilizing the talent of good post players.
David Harrison comes up with the big block
on defense and Mike Dunleavy Jr. finishes it with
the big 3-pointer to ice the win for the Pacers in Overtime. Just a fantastic game-changing sequence.
The defending champion San Antonio Spurs open up
the 2007/2008 season with a win over the Portland
Trailblazers. Key to the win was the all-world defensive lockdown by Bruce Bowen over Brandon Roy.
