Appearing on ESPN 950, Buster Olney has reported
that the Phillies have traded a package including Adrian
Cardenas and other prospects to the A's for pitcher Joe Blanton.
In exchange for a seventh rounder and a
conditional pick the Flyers sent Prospal back from whence
he came, Tampa Bay. Prospal had said he wanted to play in a warm climate, one he could golf by day in. I guess everyone has his priorities, and if "play for a contender" isn't at the absolute top of the list, then he's not a good fit in a town and organization like Philly.
Sami Kapanen is retiring from the NHL to
play in his native Finland. Kapanen has spent the
last five of his 12 NHL seasons in Philly

We've been waiting and debating (ok, other people
were debating), but it was just announced that our
own Jimmy Rollins is the National League MVP. There was plenty of room to argue for him to be the MVP, but what we saw every day in this city, from spring training til September, was all-out hustle, constant production, and fantastic, Gold-Glove play in the field.
As if things couldn't look worse for the
Eagles today, Donovan McNabb just left the field for
the locker room with a heavy limp. Other than the flea-flicker TD that was negated by L.J. Smith's hold, McNabb was having a terrible game, throwing 2 picks on plays in which he had a lot of time. A.J. "The Gambler" Feeley takes over in a game eerily reminiscent of last year's game against the Titans.
In response to Donovan McNabb's comments that the
NFC East Championship goes through last year's champion city,
Philly, Williams had some pointed words, essentially saying that no one's afraid to play at the Linc right now.
To no one's surprise, the Sixers dropped their
season opener to a talented Raptors team last night
in Toronto. They hung in there for a while and kept it close before the Raptors turned it up and got out to a 22-point second-half lead.
The Flyers put a hurtin on the Canucks,
in more ways than one. First, they put up
8 goals, which is impressive even in today's NHL. Second, the team will once again be all over the national sports news for their rough play, after Jesse Boulerice threw a nasty crosscheck to face of Ryan Kesler in garbage time.
The Phillies and Charlie Manuel have agreed to
a 2-year extension with a club option for a
third.

too bad this move was a week late.

the upcoming Eagles season today and they start it
off with a prediction and synopsis of their own.
The second half has been filled with crooked
numbers for the Phillies so far. Including last night's
rout, the Phils or their opponents have scored 10 or more runs in each game since the All-Star Break, with three of those games being lopsided wins and two being blowout losses. The bats heated up early last night in a 15-3 humiliation of the NL West-leading Dodgers.
The Phillies help the Rockies ground crew and
pull out the win.
The Flyers have again nabbed one of the
top free agents on the market this off-season, signing
center Daniel Briere to an 8-year, $52 million deal. Not long after they announced the deal, the team traded Joni Pitkanen and Geoff Sanderson for defenseman Jason Smith (who was the Oilers captain) and center Jeffrey Lopul.
"...they all deserve to be in San Fran.
But I'm gonna go out on a limb here
and say Cole Hamels is lucky to have a spot this season, considering some of the guys that were passed up."
