The college football season has been, umm what’s
the word to use, weird? Strange? Bizarre? Unpredictable? Worthless?
a tease? Crazy? Upsetting? I don’t know. Pick one. There was been so many twist and turns. There as been an upset every week and the No 1. or No. 2 team has lost to unranked teams 673 times. There is no clear cut No. 1 or No. 2 team. Therefore, there is only one thing to do the ...
Sitting around watching the San Diego/Baltimore game yesterday
something strange happened. The scores from the afternoon games
were flashing along the bottom of the TV and the Cleveland score came up. Here’s what I saw. (5-6) Houston 17, (7-4) Cleveland 27. What are those numbers in front of Cleveland? Surely, it’s a misprint, a type-o, a mistake. Either it’s suppose to be 4-7 or 74, ...
It’s official. Lloyd Carr is no longer Michigan’s
head coach. No real surprise here considering I said
it from the beginning of the season. Carr had an interesting tenor at UM, to say the least. There was plenty of up’s and down’s. As a life long Michigan fan (all 25 years of it), Carr is the coach of my generation. I remember Bo walking the sidelines but just barely and Gary Moller’s ...
And there it is. Who took the over/under
at 9 games? Ironman Larry Hughes will miss a
month, possible (more than likely) more with a, get this, bruised left leg. Really? The Cavs host Utah tonight. Which means Carlos “I steal from the blind” Boozer is back in Cleveland. We all know Cavs fans hate him for leaving the way he did. He is one of the most hated people in Cleveland sports history.
As has been heavily discussed, it’s an off
year for the The Game. Funny to say that
considering this is all the game used to stand for; a Big Ten Championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl. Amazing what that BCS has done here. Oh well. It still UM and OSU. ‘Nough said. The Game has plenty of story lines to get over the fact that both lost last week and are out of the national title picture
has there even been a game to decide
a conference champion that is less exciting. It’s still
Ohio State and Michigan, and it still is for the Big Ten title, so there is some excitement to it, but it’s not the same. Both teams coming off losses really put a damper on it. Last week just kind of summed up the whole Big Ten season. It’s mediocre.
The weekend is once again and again J
Beanie has all the information you need about the
big games (OK not all the information and not all the games, but read anyway). Since it’s still Steeler week in Cleveland and this is my last time I’ll write anything before the game Sunday, of course I have to start with that game. As I’ve said all week, for the first time since the wheel was invented ...
In the first quarter of yesterday’s Cleveland Browns
game, I turned to my buddies around me and
said Sean Jones is going to an interception and this drive. A few plays later Jones picked off a Matt Hasselbeck to stop the opening drive. From there on I knew it would be a good day for the Browns. Being inside Cleveland Browns Stadium last night was one of the best sports moments of my life. ...
Oh man, what a night! An absolutely spectacular,
thrilling, fantastic, marvelous night inside Quick & Loans Arena
last night. Wait. What’s that? The Cavs lost by 18 and were never in the game? Thank goodness for open bars. As I announced yesterday, I got to go to the Cavs home opener and attend a pregame party and watch the game from a suite. The night was perfect, until the game started, so let
On the eve of the season opener, the
Cavs finally signed Sasha Pavlovic. It’s about time. I
don’t understand why this deal couldn’t have got done a month ago. There’s nothing, according to reports, out of the ordinary about the deal. Three years at $4-5 million a year. Sounds pretty standard for a guy like Sasha. Why couldn’t Danny Ferry make this offer sooner? What was he offering all summer?
The Browns are on a win streak. The
Browns are on a win streak!! It’s not much
of a win streak but it’s still a win streak. Two games in a row for the first time since 1982. Well, not that long but it sure seems like it. For the first time since the Browns returned in 1999, they are actually watchable. Even their 9-7 playoff appearance in ‘02 wasn’t entertaining. In past years, every ...
The season starts in less than a week
but the defending Eastern Conference Cavs open play in
exactly one week on Halloween Night when the Dallas Mavericks come to town. The 2007-08 Cavilers will have an uphill battle as they try to defend their conference title. I found a check list of things Cavs GM Danny Ferry wanted to do this offseason. Let’s look at it and see how many got accomplished.
So Cleveland will have to do it in
Boston. They had their chance to win the American
League in Cleveland but a whole buffet of mistakes and disappearances cost them. Here they are in no particular order. * Why did C.C. come out for the seventh inning? * Where has Travis Hafner gone? * Where has Grady Sizemore gone?
Good-bye Yankees and good ridden. How great was
the Tribe’s 6-4 win over New York last night?
I’d compare it to as great as the Cavs beating the Pistons and winning the Eastern Conference Championship, only greater because everyone hates the Yankees more than the Pistons. The win was like that nerdy, skinny high school kid who gets picked on and picked and then after high school works out all the
LET’S GO TRIBE! LET’S GO TRIBE! That’s about
how I feel this morning (minus the slight hangover
since watching the Tribe beat up on the Yanks meant I had to have some beers). How much fun was that!?!?! I really have nothing else to say on the game. It was that good that it can stand alone. Let’s just keep it up for tonight and the rest of October. One game doesn’t make a series but Game One in a
The Cleveland Indians make their triumphant return to
October baseball. What are they greeted by, the Evil
Empire themselves, the New York Yankees. (Personally, I hate that nickname, the Evil Empire, so you won’t hear it again. It’s a compliment to them and I don’t like to dish those out.) I like this match up for the Tribe. It will be a good, entertaining series that I’m sure will spark a lot of
As a defending conference champion, who returns basically
their entire roster, ever opened camp with as many
question marks and doubts as the Cleveland Cavaliers yesterday? The Cavs opened training camp yesterday with the always entertaining Media Day. You would think the stories out of camp about a team that just had the best season in franchise history and a team with one of the best players in
The Yankees are in the playoffs. Big deal.
Like this wasn’t going to happen. They are the
New York Yankees. They have a big pay roll than the NHL and MLS combined. They’ve been to the playoffs 13 straight years. That’s impressive. I hate it, but it’s impressive. Anyway, why were they celebrating last night like they won something? They made the playoffs. Congrats. But what were you ...
If you would have told me at the
beginning of the year, Fausto Carmona would be our
No. 2 starter, no free agent pickups beside Joe Borowski did anything at all, there would be five guys that started the year at AA Akron making a major impact and we’d still be the first team to clinch and division title, I would have called you an idiot. But that’s what’s happened. The Indians have become the best
Why is everyone so surprised at the Browns
looked bad on Sunday? Did people really think they’d
score 51 points every game? The defense is bad. That should have been obvious after the Bengals game only people didn’t want to talk about that because the offense looked so good. My biggest problem is what the team was saying after the game. Numerous players said something like “we underestimated them"
