This Friday (October 24) marks the 25th anniversary
of Willie Mays’ retirement. Mays only played part of
two seasons for the Mets, including the 1973 “Ya’ Gotta Believe” National League Chamionship team. But Mays did play six seasons with the New York Giants, before they moved to San Francisco.

In a recent poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports,
a critically acclaimed polling web site, fans selected Johan
Santana as the 2008 National League Cy Young Award winner. Santana led the majors in ERA (2.53) and came in second in the National League for strikeouts (206).
Mets left hander Jason Vargas, who tossed 3
2/3 shutout innings to pick up the win. Vargas
did not allow a hit and struck out two batters.
The Seattle Times is reporting Tony Bernanzard, Mets
vice president of player development, has been eliminated as
a finalist for the general manager opening with the Mariners.
