The 2008-2009 schedule was announced just now and
here is how the teams rank in terms of
national exposure. The teams will be listed in order of how many times they appear on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and TNT. I'm not counting NBATV because it isn't universally available.
Paul Dalessio of Reebok via Fleischman-Hillard sends over
this pretty exclusive (71 views at the time of
this posting) interview of Yao Ming talking about what it means for him to play in Beijing this summer, and also touching on his new Reebok Omni Hexride shoe.
The Diamond Ball tourney wrapped up today, and
my predictions were spot on 1-6, granted I made
them when we were already halfway through the tournament. So here are just some exiting thoughts I have after the tournament.
You know him from the Sportscenter commercials, but
here's a look at his audition (posted by steveislive.com,
which is his site complete with a blog and various links).
By now, you've surely heard about Ron-Ron being
traded to the Rockets, but I saw this piece
last night up on Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle's blog that I knew I had to go at FJM-style.
with the new injury to Hamm's rotator cuff
forcing him out of the competition, we get to
see Raj Bhavsar, all-around good guy (no pun intended), make his Olympic debut. Let one feel-good story die, and another arise from its ashes.
With Josh Childress' newly minted 3 year, 32
million contract, expect more players to follow suit. Click

The Lowell Spinners will be running promotions on
back-to-back nights: Political Correct Night and Politically Incorrect Night.
Nothing bad could come of this.
For those of you in the Indianapolis area,
Zach Randolph is hosting a "Black Expo Party" on
Saturday, July 19.
What started out as a friendly game of
croquet between Hartland, ME 31-year-old Andrew Fox and his
16-year-old stepson quickly turned ugly when a disagreement about the rules led to Andrew's "losing" (i.e. being cheated out of) the game.
Baron Davis made the somewhat shocking decision to
sign with the Clippers yesterday for 5 years and
65 million dollars yesterday. While I'm not in the crowd that thinks that believes that this move coupled with the resigning of Elton Brand (and the return of Shaun Livingston) makes the Clippers instant contenders in the West, I do think that it makes them someone who could surprise a couple people
The Slovenian national basketball team could probably be
pretty good. Certainly not on the level of the
US, or even Argentina and Spain, but they certainly could be pretty good in the sense that Germany, France, Lithuania, Greece and China are pretty good. Their only problem? It seems to be apathy, as many of their best players have declined to play in this month's Olympic qualifier.
After dropping the first two sets to 22nd
seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain, our favorite hard-hitting Croat,
Mario Ancic, came back to win his fourth round match-up 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 13-11.
Paul Dalessio from Reebok via Fleischman-Hillard sends over
this video of Jerryd Bayless talking about the upcoming
draft and his close relationship with his brother, Justin, who is working as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley.
The NBA Draft is fast approaching, and despite
my pledge to continue my tradition of live-blogging the
night's festivities, I have yet to make anything resembling a preview post. So here we go, six words for each prospect ranked in the ESPN Top 30.
Wimbledon has been underway for a couple hours
now, but did you really need to be primed
to know that Roger Federer was going to beat Dominic Hrbaty? Inconsequential. So here are the biggest stories of Wimbledon 2008:
Rajon Rondo thinks that an hour is 79
minutes long.
The patron saint of The Pure Point Blog
resumes basketball-related activities.
Via TrueHoop, a couple days ago, came this
link offering up some basic analysis saying that the
NBA favored large-market teams in the playoffs. I decided to run his numbers against some other statistics that I picked up around the internet. Now, I'm not a stat geek by any means, but I am an actuary by trade, so I do know my way around statistical analysis. Read more for results.
Noted economist, Tyler Cowen, provides a fresh look
at the Tim Donaghy referee scandal. Based on historical
evidence, it's hard to argue that certain teams are favored over others. If this were true, small market teams would hardly ever make it to the Finals because the NBA, with profits in mind, would probably not allow it to happen.
