Dan Steinberg gives us some comments from Karl
Alzner on how loud the Verizon Center has been
this year. “I heard rumors that it was really good and I saw in the playoffs that it was good, but I didn’t think it was gonna be as loud as it is,” Karl Alzner said.
So that was a bit of good news.
Unfortunately, another Washington young’un, rookie C Javale McGee, sat
on the bench all night again. That’s three straight games in which McGee hasn’t made an appearance. McGee, who started in place of benched veteran Etan Thomas earlier this season
The Washington Capitals 2008/09 season is now half
complete, 41 games under the belt, and the Capitals
sit in first place in the Southeast Division and only 5 games out of the Eastern Conference lead. They are also riding a 7 game winning streak and are winners of 11 of their last 12 games. ...
Pretty good updated in the NFL Mock Draft
Database again today. We now have a total of
37 NFL mock drafts for 2009 that have been updated in 2009 so far. QB Sam Bradford and QB Matt Stafford are still the biggest two battling it out for the first overall selection by the Detroit Lions. However, ...
The season was good enough that Portis finished
4th overall in the NFL in rushing and earned
a Pro Bowl nod. Fact is for the redskins, the Redskins win when Portis is on. Portis ran for over 100 yards in 6 games this season and the Redskins were 5-1 in those games.
The rivalry game was all that it was
said to be. Hard hitting. Intense play. Purposely aimed
hits. Outstanding saves. Incredible shots. It was a world of difference than the debacle in Philadelphia, where the Capitals were embarrassed 7-1.
Coming off a surprising 80-77 victory over LeBron
Almighty James and the Cleveland Traveliers, the Wizards pondered
James’ “crab dribble” that James claims makes him immune to traveling calls. With mere seconds left in the game and the Wizards up by 2 points
The Washington Capitals have one rival they dislike
the most, one rival they feel vengeance against, that
rivals the Capitals face tonight — the Philadelphia Flyers. Not only did Philadelphia embarrass the Caps earlier this season, beating them 7-1
Shawn Springs‘ days at Redskins Park seemed over
in the 2008 offseason, but Springs returned and had
another good year, though one often marred by injury. Washington’s defensive coaches were impressed by the way Springs played when healthy and he now seems a good bet to return
The NFL Database itself will be updated at
LEAST TWICE PER DAY, most days, time permitting! This
is the original Mock Draft Database, the one that most others have modeled themselves after. It is 8 years old, and Tom and I, the original creators, bring it to you hard and fast!
So here we go, the first in a
tradition now. Here are your Capitals Three Stars of
the Week, plus Your Difference Maker of the Week. THREE STARS OF THE WEEK (Last week of December into first week of January)
Lately, it doesn’t matter if Jose Theodore, Brent
Johnson, or rookie prospect Simeon Varlamov is in goal,
the Capitals just keep winning. Tonight, it was all Jose Theodore, stopping 21 of 22 shots and picking up his 5th consecutive win to lead the Capitals to their 6th consecutive win.
Now at the end of 2008, the Mock
Draft Database has 100 mock drafts listed for the
2009 NFL Draft, already! For the first time, we are beginning to see a consensus choice for the first overall pick. We have it narrowed down to two quarterbacks: GA Matt Stafford and OK Sam Bradford.

AT the QB … Jason Campbell seems to
be confused over why an endorsement of him as
starter was even needed. “Every year it seems to be a question around here and I don’t understand why,”
The red hot Washington Capitals laid into Buffalo,
in Buffalo, an arena where they previously were 1-7
in their last 8 appearances.
Washington led most of the game, despite playing
a second straight game without SG Caron Butler, a
two-time All Star. Once again, the team was led by the Captawn, Antawn Jamison, who led all scorers with 30 points and all rebounders with 12. He also added 3 dimes and 2 swats. Andray Blatche ...
What do you say? I think the Capitals
are absolutely loaded with goalie prospects. It all starts
and ends with the 2006 NHL draft, in which the Caps took Simeon Varlamov in the first round followed by Michal Neuvirth in the second round. Varlamov is obviously a biog part of Washington’s future, ...
Clinton Portis finished 4th in rushing yards, Santana
Moss finished 14th in receiving yards and Jason Campbell
finished 19th with an 84.3 passer rating. He did have the lowest interception ratio in the league.
Let’s start it off with Great 8. Alexander
Ovechkin was named one of the Top Three Stars
of the week by the NHL. Ovie accumulated 6 points (5 Gs, 1 Asst) in a three game spurt that left the Capitals 3-0-0 for the week and a surge to a 10 point lead in the Southeast Division. Congratulations Alex!
