This is pretty freaking hilarious. My good friend
EJ Flex (die hard Yankee fan) sent this my
way, and even though it's an extreme parody of Sox fans, it's pretty damn funny. I like to think that if you can't laugh at yourself you can't laugh at anything. Knuckleballs!
On Monday, Rich took a look back at
the important business of the 2008 season to date:
who's winning, who's losing, and why. Unimportant business is important too, however, so over the next two days I’ll be providing a rundown of the ephemeral, the trivial, and the pathetic events of the season's first half. Today: March and April.
A tumultuous week for Alex Rodriguez, played out
in tabloid headlines and carried on the whispers of
a connection to Madonna, came to a head Monday when his wife filed for divorce. “The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband’s extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct,” according to her petition for dissolution of marriage.
This article's ending goes beyond the review and
summarizes the true greatness of baseball: "Baseball's Golden Age
is not a time set in stone. It's the time when each person learned to fall in love with the game."
Two points from victory, the No. 1-ranked Federer
couldn't pull it out, instead succumbing to No. 2
Nadal 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7 Sunday night in a 4-hour, 48-minute test of wills that was the longest men's final in Wimbledon history -- and quite possibly the greatest.
The fans have voted. And now so have
the managers and players. This year's All-Star squads are
now set to represent the National and American Leagues in the annual Midsummer Classic at Yankee Stadium on July 15. Again they offer the best and brightest of Major League Baseball's veterans and talented younger set.
The American League's All-Star starters have a distinct
Red Sox-flavor. And the National League starting lineup includes
three Chicago Cubs. Fans voted Red Sox players to start in four of the nine positions. Kevin Youkilis will start at first base, Dustin Pedroia at second, Manny Ramirez in the outfield and David Ortiz at designated hitter.
Spain have been crowned European champions for the
second time as Fernando Torres's first-half goal in Vienna
proved enough to defeat Germany in the final of UEFA EURO 2008™.
Today we launched a new and improved 3D
interface in Gameday that provides unprecedented and exclusive control
over their view of the batter vs. pitcher matchup that is at the heart of the game. Rather than seeing each pitch from a fixed viewpoint, you can use the controls in the 3D interface to zoom in or out, rotate around the action, or tilt up and down.

PHOENIX - Shaquille O’Neal will lose his special
deputy’s badge in Maricopa County because of language he
used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center’s use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006.
It encompassed four separate surgeries, two involving a
diseased biceps tendon, a similar procedure to a SLAP
- Superior Labrum from Anterior to Posterior - lesion tear in the pitcher’s labrum, and a small adjustment made to Schilling’s rotator cuff. The most encouraging aspect of the operation was the minimal damage found in Schilling’s rotator cuff.
I am set to have what could be
extensive and potentially career ending shoulder surgery on Monday.
The result of that surgery could be waking up and being told “It’s been a nice run big man, but you’re done” or “It wasn’t THAT bad, but it’s going to take serious time and effort to ever pitch again”.
Multiple Red Sox players confirmed yesterday that Thursday
night's dugout altercation between Manny Ramírez and Kevin Youkilis
resulted from Ramírez objecting to what he believed was excessive - and chronic - complaining about the strike zone by Youkilis in the dugout, as well as the first baseman's penchant for throwing equipment after at-bats.
NESN caught footage of Kevin Youkilis and Manny
Ramirez getting all rough & tumble in the dugout
during the Red Sox/Rays game tonight. No word yet on what it was about. Earlier in the game, Coco charged the mound & took some swings at Rays' pitcher Shields. Manny showed up late to the brawl, maybe that's what it's about. Who knows.
Spectacular catch by Manny Ramirez in the Orioles/Red
Sox game today. Manny catches the ball, high-fives a
fan as he's against the outfield wall, then throws back to first base to double-up a Audrey Huff for the 3rd out of the inning. Give this man a Gold Glove!
A call for sanity in the Sox/Yankees rivalry...
"Anyone that's stopped by our humble blog over the
past four years knows a couple of things about us: we love the Red Sox and we hate the Yankees. But even in our drunkest, hepped-up-on-Red-Bull, post-Yankee-loss rage, we know it's just a game and there's always gonna be another one. Sadly, there are people that take sports way too far."
We charted each of Manny Ramirez's career homers.

For the last year and especially over the
last few months since the Mitchell Report was unleashed,
baseball has been atwitter with how to deal with human growth hormone, or HGH. I've been on TV and radio countless times over the last few weeks and they all ask me what can baseball do? I simply shake my head and say "Why do anything? HGH is expensive, ineffective, and isn't being used any more."
"I now present to you the ESPN Scouts
Inc. Top 100 Prospects Ranking for 2008. To prepare
this list, I've re-read my scouting reports, watched some old draft videos and most importantly, I've ignored team officials who lobbied for their players." A rundown from Keith Law with Scouts, Inc. Good analysis, not just a list.
