 All Time Movie Football Stars
All Time Movie Football Stars
Who are the greatest fictional football players of all time? Solid breakdown by Peter Hartlaub of the SF Chronicle. My only complaints: not enough love is being shown to Johnny Utah or Willie Beaman, and no mention at all of Randall "Pink" Floyd.

World Series of Beer Pong in Las Vegas
If you’ve never heard of it before, get ready to find a new world series to become obsessed or entertained with. Once a tournament makes it’s move to Las Vegas and offers a $50,000 winning prize, you can almost bet you’ll someday find it on some obscure HD channel, enter Beer Pong.... It is estimated there are over 600 national and international competitors, mainly college students, competing.

Why Don’t Sports Teams Use Randomization?
Ian Ayres, a Yale economist and law professor, puts together a good argument on the use (or at least, testing) of random number generators in the sports world. Why don't coaches use randomization on football plays, baseball pitches, and other important strategic decisions?

13 Weddings?
Yes, it's a Doug and Jackie Christie story!! Why are the wonderful couple in the news this time? Because True Hoop is reporting they have had 13 full-on wedding celebrations and counting. "If you're always planning a wedding, you never have time to plan a divorce." Umm. Yeah. Whatever.

 Rate the Referees
Rate the Referees
"In the wake of the Tim Donaghy scandal, many are calling for more transparency in evaluating NBA referees. Lets try the wisdom of the crowds to determine which refs get it right most often." Yeah.....I'm sure nobody would ever let personal biases get in the way of accurate ratings.

The Undrafted in the NBA
Good article about the impact of undrafted players in the NBA. They almost never become superstars, but can turn into decent role players. I wouldn't mind making that kind of money for riding the pine....

Rome on Vick
Johnny Cochrane’s not coming through that door. There won’t be any, “If the leash don’t fit, you must acquit” moments. Maybe go with something like, “Don’t be upset, it’s just the family pet.” Go ahead and use that, I’m fine with it! I don’t even want any credit! Or maybe, “You do know some people eat dogs? Why all the hatin’ on all them blogs?”

Michael Vick Indicted on Dogfighting Charges
Michael Vick Indicted on Dogfighting Charges
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was indicted late Tuesday afternoon by a Federal Grand Jury in Richmond, Va., for conspiracy to transport dogs across state lines for the purpose of dog fighting. Vick became the focus of a federal dog fighting probe after an April 25 drug raid on his Surry County, Va., home. At that time, authorities seized 66 dogs, including 55 pit bulls, and equipment

 Marco Belinelli: "Sensational"
Marco Belinelli: "Sensational"
By Marc Stein: This is where a Warriors rookie who was born to play in Nelson's system, according to Nelson himself, has generated more excitement than anyone at the NBA's sunbaked Las Vegas Summer League, Durant and Greg Oden included.

Tuesday was not a good day for Bill Simmons
Tuesday was not a good day for Bill Simmons
There's a famous quote by Mark Twain that speaks to the dangers of expectation. A thing long expected takes the form of the unexpected when at last it comes. -Twain And that's what happened tonight for the Boston Celtics. With the second worst record in the NBA, it was more than apparent that Boston was banking on this draft even more than the Memphis Grizzlies (who I feel bad for). Why ...

NBA Playoffs 1987: Warriors and Jazz Brawl
NBA Playoffs 1987: Warriors and Jazz Brawl
I dug up this old article on the Warriors/Jazz playoff game recap  brawl from 1987.  Utah fan was out in force that night.  Unfortunately for them, the W's reeled off 3 straight to take the series.  From the San Jose Mercury News archives (April 26, 1987): WARRIORS GO DOWN FIGHTING They left the court surrounded by angry fans and overwhelmed security people in a ...
