Caught up with QB Kellen Clemens today in Central Park, where he participated in an NFL-organized youth football clinic with several Jets and Giants. Naturally, with the draft approaching, we asked Clemens to comment on the speculation that the Jets might draft a quarterback, namely BC’s Matt Ryan. Erik Boland, the rookie from Newsday, was there, too. We fired away at Clemens, but he maintained his pocket presence, something he didn’t always do last season. Asked how he’d react if the Jets picked Ryan near the top of the draft, Clemens said, “At this point, Chad (Pennington) and I are in a battle … If we did pick him, awesome. That’s one more guy in the competition.” Reflecting on his ‘07 performance, he said, “There were some good things and some things that need improvement. It’s an open competition right now because we were 4-12 last year. That’s the nature of the beast. You go 4-12, it means a lot of areas need improvement. ... [link]
