A win-win night for Yanks

 
Strange night for the Yankees, one which looked as though it would be a very positive one for most of the game against the Rays. Ian Kennedy looked more like the guy we saw last September than the one who had started off slow this season, a good sign for the Yankees’ starting rotation. The offense awoke from its slumber, using three early homers by Johnny Damon, Alex Rodriguez and Morgan Ensberg, then two big hits by Damon and Derek Jeter, to take what seemed to be a commanding lead. Then the bullpen gave it all back. Is that reason to worry? Not necessarily. Billy Traber and Brian Bruney have been terrific this season, but they both fell apart in the same game. That’s going to happen. As long as they rebound – and Bruney did so right away, getting some more key outs after Robinson Cano broke the tie with a pinch-hit homer – they’ll be fine.
