Jason Varitek got most of the night off. Then he got the big hit. After resting for eight innings, Boston's steady catcher broke a ninth-inning tie Tuesday with a pinch-hit homer that sent the Red Sox to a 5-3 victory in Cleveland and a two-game sweep of their ALCS rematch.

Jason Varitek came out of the bullpen to pinch-hit for Kevin Cash in the 9th inning and the move paid off as Tek hit a home run to help the Boston Red Sox get past the Cleveland Indians 5-3 at a half-empty Progressive Field on Tuesday night.
