I haven't changed my mind on Francisco Rodriguez -- I still think that the Mets and their fans should be worried about his slip in strikeout rate, drop in velocity and rising walk rate -- but the Mets' bullpen today looks like a force to be reckoned with thanks to a stupendous blockbuster trade last night.

Picking apart the Putz deal
hardballtimes.com 12/11/2008 — Naturally, there's been a lot written about the Seattle/Cleveland/Mets deal, and I can't do better than Keith Law's overview . Mets remain in market for No. 4 starter
mlb.mlb.com 12/11/2008 — After bringing in closer Francisco Rodriguez and setup man J.J. Putz, the Mets are still in need of at least one starting pitcher. Rookies Jonathon Niese and rookie Bobby Parnell could win the fifth starter's job out of camp, but an opening remains ...
Stark: Mets remake their tattered bullpen
sports.espn.go.com 12/11/2008 — As long as J.J. Putz and Francisco Rodriguez are healthy, there probably isn't a better late-innings combo than the Mets' new twosome.
Mets - Acquired Putz
baseballthinkfactory.org 12/11/2008 — New York Mets - Acquired P Jumping Jehosephat Putz in a 3-way jamboree.
Three-way trades are always convoluted, so as usual, I'll dissect it as 3 separate trades.

Omar Minaya Got His Man for the Ninth —
Bleacher Report - MLB 12/11/2008
Omar got the winter meetings off to a fast start by nabbing closer Francisco Rodriguez off the market. It is a sign of how desperately the Mets need to shore up a bullpen that has struggled to keep lead in the past two years. It is the first step ...
New York Mets Acquire Stud J.J. Putz —
Bleacher Report - MLB 12/11/2008
Last night the Mets pulled off a three-way deal with the Mariners and Indians. The Mets acquired J.J. Putz, Jeremy Reed, and Sean Green (No not the old Met who always swung for the fences).
The Mariners acquired Franklin Gutierrez from the ...
