Anchors of the AFC West, Pt. 1: San Diego Chargers

 
You can bet Nick Hardwick’s wife puts his health above all, but she was probably not pleased by the cancellation of their 21 day vacation to Maui and Australia. A missed diagnosis after an Oct. 14th sprain against Oakland sidelined the Pro Bowl Center four weeks until a doctor cleared him to play claiming the foot injury was a "minor tweak". Hardwick played the final six games of the season and then three play off games knowing "...something was wrong". Hardwick’s "minor tweak" now required vacation-cancelling surgery, that took place on March 14th. Hardwick is expected to be ready for camps in July, but could be out until September. During the 2007 season, backup center Cory Withrow filled in for Hardwick, but the Chargers acknowledged they missed the Pro Bowler’s play. San Diego went 2-2 and in the games Hardwick missed. Antonio Gates, Philip Rivers, and fullback Andrew Pinnock all underwent surgery this off season and could miss ... (link)
