Baseball Bicycle; D'Backs Drew and M's Beltre Each Hit For The Cycle
Four score and eight years ago players from the New York Giants and the Detroit Tigers performed a feat that could not be duplicated until two expansion teams did, well yesterday.
Bobby Veach of the Detroit Tigers and George Burns of the New York Giants, no not that George Burns, hit for the cycle on the same day.
Not an easy feat, nabbing a single, double, triple, and home run in one baseball game. It happens, maybe twice a year.
But on September 17th, 1920, Veach and Burns did it on the same day.
It would take almost 88 years of Major League Baseball history before that feat would be repeated.
But on September 1st, 2008, Stephen Drew (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Adrian Beltre (Seattle Mariners) combined to perform the same feat.
Drew and the D'Backs hosting the St. Louis Cardinals, singled in the leadoff spot against starter Joel Pinerio.
