Billy Crystal: Striking Out with the New York Yankees

Actor and comedian Billy Crystal made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees on Thursday. The Yankees took on the Pittsburgh Pirates in a spring training game for Crystal's debut. Crystal was wearing uniform number 60 because the day marked his 60th birthday. Crystal led off the game as the designated hitter. In his at-bat, Crystal fouled off a 1-0 fastball and then worked to a full count against Pittsburgh's left-hander Paul Maholm before striking out on an 88 mph cutter. Crystal took 6 pitches. After his one and only at-bat, he was replaced by Johnny Damon.  Crystal was released Friday, on his 60th birthday. Crystal is an avid Yankee fan and a New York City native. "It was unbelievable and the greatest moment of my life," Crystal said. "I don't really know how to describe it. It was intensely good." What a way to celebrate your birthday, with your the dream of being a NY Yankee for a day comes true. [link]
