Bo Pelini Handed Task of Returning Nebraska to Glory

 
Nebraska enters yet another era in 2008, with new head coach Bo Pelini being handed the keys to the Big Red Machine, aiming to get the Cornhuskers back to the upper echelon of the Big XII. Not so long ago, Nebraska had a stake in majority ownership of the Big XII North. Having the likes of Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa State on the schedule was seen as an automatic win. How times have changed. The Huskers have not won at Missouri since 2001. Nebraska won 13 straight before 2001 in Columbia, dating back to 1973. Nebraska lost to Kansas in Lawrence for the first time in our generation in 2005, the first win for the Jayhawks over the mighty Big Red since 1967. In 2007, Kansas won at home 76-39. Nebraska did win at Iowa State in 2006, snapping a two-game losing skid. Other than when the Cyclones pulled one of the biggest upsets in college football history with its 19-10 victory at home in 1992, Nebraska hadn’t lost in Ames since 1976.
