Bobby Abreu Leads Yankees to Series Win Over ChiSox
The New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night by a score of 9-2.
Mike Mussina took the hill for the last time at the current Yankee Stadium. He went six innings, gave up one earned run on five hits, walked two, and struck out four.
Former Yankee Javier Vazquez started for Chicago. He lasted 3.2 innings and gave up seven runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out four.
The White Sox struck first in the top of the first. Paul Konerko grounded into a fielder's choice to score Orlando Cabrera, and the ChiSox took a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning with Derek Jeter on first, Bobby Abreu came up and smacked a two-run homer into the upper deck in right field, his 18th long ball of the season, and the Yankees took a 2-1 lead.
Abreu would strike again in the bottom of the third. This time it was a solo homer deep into the right field bleachers, Abreu's 19th big fly on the campaign, and the Yankees took a 3-1 lead.
