Just 10 days after Barry Bonds’ agent Jeff Borris said that he was not optimistic about his client finding employment during the 2008 season, the Yankees brass spoke about signing baseball’s home run king during meetings at their spring training facility.
Bonds is 43 years old and hasn’t played a game since the end of the 2007 season for San Francisco. Amidst the allegations, indictments, and record-chasing of last year Bonds managed to make the All-Star team while hitting .276 with 28 home runs and an MLB-leading .480 OBP in 126 games.
Barry Bonds fits in New York. The Yankees are universally hated. So is Bonds.
Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada have an injured knee and shoulder, respectively, and both are mulling the possibility of season-ending surgery. Yeah, they already brought on Richie Sexson. But if Matsui and Posada are both gone for the year, they will need the extra bat.
