Boston Celtics Thriving with Sam Cassell

 
Sam Cassell looks like E.T.—and his team is playing out of this world! Since picking up Cassell via the waiver wire, the Boston Celtics are 8-1 with key wins over Detroit, San Antonio, and Houston. All wins were bigger than a simple "W" or "L." The Celtics silenced critics with the victory over Detroit, came back from 23 points down to beat the Spurs Monday, and ended Houston's 22-game winning streak by blowing them out by 22 points last night. Is it a coincidence that since Sam-I-Am's arrival, the C's have been arguably the most dominant team in the league? No. No coincidence. Sam Cassell has slowed the tempo and helped Boston to play smarter and more physically. However, Sam brought in to provide offense, too. He's only scored 35 points in his first nine games. In five of those games, he went scoreless. Then again, Cassell could still be adjusting to his new role on a new team in a new ball club. I think Cassell will improve over time, especially ...
