The Boston Bruins are playing their second game in two nights after coming off a win on Friday afternoon against the New York Islanders 7-2. The Bruins showed up tonight against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings and beat them convincingly 4-1.
The Bruins came out in the first period sluggish for the first eight minutes then they broke through with a real nice goal from Blake Wheeler (8th of season, Tied for 2nd amongst rookies in the NHL). From then on, the Bruins controlled the game and kept all rebounds away from Manny Fernandez.
Fernandez (7-0-1) as the back up this season got the nod for the second game (first time this season) in a row from Head Coach Claude Julien. A great coaching move to keep Fernandez as the starter to give Timmy Thomas a little extra rest. It is these types of moves that will keep the Bruins goaltending tandem fresh and sharp later on as they get deeper into the season.
