Colon agrees to minor-league deal with Boston

Former AL Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon agreed Monday to a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox and will report to spring training.
The 34-year-old Colon right-hander was 6-8 with a 6.34 ERA in 19 games last season with the Los Angeles Angels.
He has been slowed by injuries, opening last year on the disabled list with a partial tear in his right rotator cuff and later going out with problems in his elbow.

ESPN.com reports that the Red Sox reached an agreement on a minor league contract with the former 2005 Cy Young Award winner. This could be a good thing for Boston, now without Curt Schilling, the club could use the insurance. Bartolo had an awful 2007 for the Angels, putting up a 6-8 record and a 6.34 ERA, a career worst. Yesterday was a busy day as far as the Red Sox were concerned.The Sox had their annual picture day, the starters threw live batting practice, Terry Francona’s extension finally got done and last night word came that the Sox had signed Bartolo Colon to a minor league deal, which is official as of 12 Noon today.The Bottom Line: Theo on Colon
