The Rocky Mountain News is reporting that the Colorado Rockies have hired Jim Tracy as their new bench coach.
The Rockies have not announced the decision because they want to introduce all of the new coaches together.
Tracy has extensive experience as a major-league manager. He managed the Dodgers from 2001 to 2005 and then the Pirates in 2006 and 2007. In seven years as a manager, Tracy has a career record of 562-572, a .496 winning percentage.
His best year came in 2004 with the Dodgers, where he led the team to a 93-69 record and a National League West title.
One of the reasons that the Rockies may have selected Tracy is due to his experience in Coors Field. Tracy has extensive experience in the mile-high park during his years with the Dodgers.
Tracy has also served as a bench coach in the past. He worked under Felipe Alou in Montreal from 1995 to 1998 and in the same roll under Davey Johnson in Los Angeles from 1999 to 2000, before he was hired to replace Johnson.
