Come To Think of It...Oh What a Relief It Is, Cubs Win Despite Shaky Ninth

 
There used to be a commercial whose jingle went, "Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is." Well, except for the plop and fizz, that's how Cubs fans everywhere must be feeling after a much needed victory in St. Louis last night. Break out the Mogan David, honey, we durn won us a ballgame! Yes, relief! In addition to showing my age, I say this because even the ending had you on the edge of your seat. It seems Woody is still struggling, as he gave up a two-run homer in the ninth before getting his 29th save Wednesday night. This after a blown save in his last effort, his sixth of the season. Ted Lilly came up BIG for the Cubbies last night. We needed a gutsy performance, and we sure got one from Lilly. I personally would have trotted him out to pitch the ninth inning, and I said that even before Wood's horror show. But, in the end, he got the win and the Cubs won, so all is right again in Cubs nation. In addition to pitching eight solid innings, Lilly took out catcher Yadier Molina in ... (link)
