Crean: Holman's tantrum was staged

 
We hate to think of ourselves as conspiracy theorists in this blog, but Indiana coach Tom Crean is throwing a plausible one out relative to the departure of 6-9 freshman Eli Holman, who left that Big ten school and will transfer to Detroit-Mercy, where he will play for former IU assistant Ray McCallum. Holman threw a tantrum - kicking a potted plant in Crean’s office - during a discussion after he announced he wanted to transfer so he could be closer to his family in Richmond, Calif. Crean, who actually had to call campus security because Holman seemed agitated, is now claiming to ESPN.com the moment was orchestrated and we are starting to see his point. Holman apparently has no grasp of geography. Detroit is actually farther away from the Coast than Bloomington. Hey, no biggie. The kid didn’t play that much. But incidents like this are why more and more newly hired coaches - searching to obtain a measure of stability on their roster - will only release a player with strings ... [link]
