Cy vs. sigh

 
While I am sure the Yankees are honestly concerned about Phil Hughes’ injury, at least Brian Cashman will now get a respite from his scheduled once-every-six-days’ executive slap-down. Unfortunately for Cashman, the work days of Hughes and Johan Santana had synched up so that both starters were pitching on the same day. That meant that simply by changing channels last Tuesday, Yankee fans (and Hank Steinbrenner) could compare the Cy Young starter they might have had with the faltering young pitcher so desperately protected by Cashman in the name of youth-a-nizing the Yankees. So far, it sure looks like Cashman has made yet another error in analyzing pitchers. He might have stolen practically the whole Red Sox rotation, but ended up with the wrong Marlin and the wrong Japanese star. Then he passed on Santana, and instead Hughes is giving up a run an inning when he is able to climb the mound.
