Cy Young winners can be rotten people. Really!

Once again, it is time for us despised, cynical sportswriters to tell you good-hearted believers out there: We told you so! We move now from one shady party to the next, from Marion Jones to Roger Clemens, who stands accused by sources of a decade-long romantic affair that began when singer Mindy McCready was just a 15-year-old minor, as reported by the I-Team in today’s News. I’m not sure how, or if, this revelation will impact on the meandering steroids investigation into Clemens’ shady history. It seems sometimes that Congress loses interest in these things as soon as they find the next spotlight. But the development should surely embarrass two overly enthusiastic groups of supporters: The Texas high school coaches, who insisted on inviting Clemens to speak before their students (some of them 15 years old) even after the publication of the Mitchell Report; and Congressional Republicans, forever wrongheaded, most of whom fell all over themselves trying to exonerate the guy ...
