Danny Briere Leaves Practice; Will Not Play Against Carolina

 
You knew the Philadelphia Flyers were legitimate Stanley Cup contenders entering the season as long as the injury bug didn't catch on. Unfortunately, that's been the case in the last couple of days with Simon Gagne landing on long-term injury with two hernias. Like that wasn't bad enough, Danny Briere left practice on Friday with a "lower-body injury," and is not expected to play in Philadelphia's matinee against the Hurricanes on Halloween. Briere, 32, has collected five goals and two assists in 10 games this season after missing 53 games with abdominal and groin injuries last year. The Flyers called up David Laliberte from the Adirondack Phantoms to take Briere's spot on the roster. Laliberte potted two goals and four assists for six points with a plus-two in eight games for the Phantoms. Laliberte was one of the last players to be cut this preseason, and played well enough to earn a call up in case of injury.
