A long time ago when the Knicks used to play meaningful basketball games, Mike and Mad Dog were fixtures at Madison Square Garden. Was there anything better than those home playoff games against the Bulls with Michael Jordan and the Pacers with Reggie Miller? If Michael or Reggie were in town that meant that Mike and Chris would be hosting their popular radio program from the Marty Glickman booth.
They always brought a big-game feel to the day. You could always count on them interviewing Dave Checketts, Pat Riley and a player, usually Derek Harper or Doc Rivers, leading up to tip-off.
But those days are long gone; Checketts, Riley, Harper and Rivers moved out years ago. The Knicks have hosted two playoff games since 2000 and the Garden even replaced the Glickman booth with expensive club seats.
And now Mike and the Mad Dog are no more after it was announced that Chris Russo and WFAN have parted ways. It’s too bad. I was looking forward to seeing the Knicks back in the playoffs again with ...
