Ex-Cub pitches in to give exotic animals a better life

Dave Hoekstra: Dr. Rich Nye is used to tight jams. He was a steady pitcher for the late '60s Cubs who faced big cats like Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. But on a slow moving summer morning, the 6-foot-5 southpaw is removing an abscess near the ear of a turtle. Nye is one of the premier exotic animal veterinarians in America. Now 64, Nye has retired from general practice but has his own part-time consulting business that is available to suburban Chicago exotic veterinarians. [link]
