FIBA turnout less than impressive

Junior guard Lance Stephenson of Lincoln, junior guard Dom Cheek from St. Anthony’s of Jersey City and point guard Kemba Walker of Rice, who signed with UConn, are all participating in tryouts for USA Basketball’s 18-and-under team that will play in the FIBA Americas Tournament later this month in Argentina. But we were disappointed to find only 18 candidates showed up for the three-day preliminary camp at Georgetown. Forward Isaiah Armwood, a 6-8 rising senior from Montrose (Md.) Christian Academy, who committed to Villanova last night, was supposed to be there, but he suffered a bruised knee in a recent travel team event in the D.C. area. [link]
