Strong Pitching Has Cardinals in First Place (For Now)

Last night Adam Wainwright pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and two runs in a 5-4 victory over the Brewers. It was Wainwright's second win for the Cardinals, who have somehow found themselves in first place in the NL Central. With 11 wins in their first 15 games, the Cardinals are 1.5 games ahead of the much-ballyhooed Cubs. How have they done this?

Usually when I do the series recaps I like to break it up into the good, bad, ugly and then give a summary. I’m not going to do that for this series. Even Prince Fielder’s first home run of the season isn’t enough to mask all the garbage I had to watch the last three days. The Brewers were riding high coming into the series with the Cards.
