Fifteen-year-old photo links Pedro and his new catcher

Brian Schneider brought in a show-and-tell item today, and Pedro Martinez was giddy to see it. Schneider had a photograph of himself at 15 years old, wearing a Northampton (Pa.) High baseball shirt, posing with Pedro at Dodgertown in what both players estimate was 1992, the year Martinez made his major-league debut. “That’s when you know you’re getting older,” a delighted Pedro, who was probably 20 years old himself, said. “That’s when you know you’re an old goat. I look like a little boy there.” Schneider made annual weekly pilgrimages to Dodgertown as a child because his grandparents lived in the area. He remembers taking other photographs with a wheelchair-bound Roy Campanella as well as Mike Piazza. *** Fernando Tatis looks like he may have trumped Ruben Gotay for a bench spot, while Mike Pelfrey remains the expected starter for Game 5, April 5 in Atlanta.
