There were only a few highlights for the Caps tonight at Wachovia Center. And both of them, in my opinion, involved Donald Brashear. Brashear bloodied Flyers' tough guy Riley Cote twice, but the first bout deserves a little recognition. Brashear absolutely destroyed Cote, pummeling him with a rapid-fire succession of left jabs to the jaw and eye. Stupidly, Cote picked another fight with Brashear in the third period and looked woozy as he walked to the dressing room. Not much else went right for the Caps, whose five-game winning streak came to an abrupt (and somewhat shocking) end. As Brooks Laich said, the story of this game was the first period. Anytime a team takes 25 shots (a new road record for the Caps) and doesn't get a goal (or four), it's setting the stage for a disappointing defeat. And that's exactly what happened.
