THE GAME: San Diego Chargers (4-3) at Giants (5-3), CBS, 4:15 p.m.
WHAT IT MEANS: Now that the Yankees are no longer distracting the New York area, the focus turns to what a mess the football teams have become. This may not literally be a “one-game season” as Tom Coughlin said this week, but the last thing the Giants want is two weeks to hear about, think about, and talk about a four-game losing streak. Their psyche already seems pretty battered. This is a huge game for their state of mind, which is at a critical level heading towards their much-needed bye.
MATCHUP TO WATCH: RBs LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles vs. the middle of the Giants defense. That includes DTs Fred Robbins, Barry Cofield, Rocky Bernard and Chris Canty and MLB Antonio Pierce.
