Ford's departure puts UMass out of running for Mitchell

UMass coach Travis Ford’s move to Oklahoma State may be to St. John’s gain. Ford’s move has changed the re-recruitment landscape of Florida sophomore Jonathan Mitchell. The Mount Vernon product had been considering transferring to UMass to play for Ford, but the school is likely no longer an option. “We haven’t heard from anyone there (since Ford’s announcement),” said Herb Mitchell, Jonathan’s uncle. “It’s disappointing. It’s safe to say they’re no longer on the list.” The Red Storm, however, are now in the hunt, joining Seton Hall and Rutgers as potential suitors for the services of Mitchell, a 6-7 forward with inside-outside skills. “It’s safe to say,” Herb said, “that Jonathan will be in the Big East next year.” - by Ebenezer Samuel (link)
