Forde: No pass for Knight resigning mid-season Links7
If Bob Knight had abided by his own rules that he demanded to his players, his legacy would have been universally praised. Instead, he will be remembered for his record 902 wins and for choking a former player, writes Pat Forde. [link]

Texas Tech Tuesday Morning Notes - Bob Knight Resigns Edition

Texas Tech Basketball: For my thoughts as to why Knight may have left in the middle of the season, see my post from last night. As I said in the comments section, I need to hear Knight to say it in his own words before speculating more, or perhaps more importantly, I need to see if his face says that he's tired. I need to hear him talk about his resignation to really figure out how I feel. ...

Round II Of Daily Links....

The Bob Knight era at Texas Tech is officially over. After recording his 900th win a little over 3 weeks ago, Knight resigned as the Red Raiders head basketball coach , and left his son, Pat, in charge - at least for the rest of the 2008 season. What does this have to do with St. Louis sports? Well, nothing really - except for the fact that The General is good buds with Cardinals skipper, Tony LaRussa...which can only mean one thing: more time for photo ops in Cardinals gear with beautiful women. Sounds like a plan. Our team's season has been over for months, but now that football is officially over for the rest of the league, it's time to focus on what really matters - ...

A History of Wilding: ESPN’s Forde on Bobby Knight’s Jerky Exit, Legacy
Published 2/5/2008 by David Roth at Can't Stop The Bleeding
Bobby Knight, to me, has always represented just about everything that’s wrong with a certain flavor of American masculinity. His blinkered, rageful lack of perspective — the high standard to which he held others (including those just trying to use the salad bar) and the lack of any personal behavioral standard to which he held himself — strikes me as at the root of a great many problems in our culture. I always figured this was just me being an (sub)urban (sub)elite or something; that there was somehow something in me that was inadequately respectful of bellowing dickholes in windbreakers and permanent press slacks. But it’s nice to see that ...

Bob Knight reactions

We're going to talk more about last night's game eventually, but first I think it's necessary to take a brief look at how folks are reacting to the big news that was creepily broken by Rece Davis last night. First things first, I don't like Bob Knight. I can't foresee any situation in which I will be forced to work or be in the same room with him, so I'm not scared to say it. I grew up not liking Bob Knight because the other people in my family didn't like Bob Knight, and I decided I still didn't like him after I reached the point where I was able to form my own opinions. I do still love the "game face" bit though. I always saw Knight the same way I see Hannibal ...

... much discipline out of his players, The General hypocritically lacks the description in his persona. He was verbally and physically abusive to everyone around him. He choked and slapped his own players, berated reporters for honest questions, shoved fans, and verbally embarrassed coaches. All of those volatile actions, yet Knight demands the utmost discipline from his players. That's hypocritical. Quitter: Knight violates own principles - Jay Mariotti (Chicago Sun-Times) Knight's final act a hypocritical one in a career full of them - Pat Forde (ESPN.com) You ...

Rounding Up Opinions on Bob Knight's Retirement Resignation
Published 2/7/2008 by Charles Rich at FanHouse
Filed under: Big 12 Basketball, NCAA Basketball Coaches, Texas Tech BasketballWriting about Bob Knight should be more difficult. He is more than simply a bully. He is more than simply a great and legendary coach. How do you write a 500 word, a 1000 word or any word count of a column about this guy? Someone who has shown so many sides of himself to the public, that any article or post comes off as somewhat simplistic and written by a hater or an apologist? The answer, is that you can't. So I think many writers just put their head down and write about one aspect and pay lip-service to the other part out of necessity. No shock that ...
