Fraley: Penny is latest source of optimism for Dodgers

 
Another Friday, another potential boost for a team that needs all the help it can get. Yes, that's the Los Angeles Dodgers. A week ago today, outfielder Manny Ramirez debuted with the Dodgers after forcing his way out of Boston via trade. Ramirez has hit .565 with four homers, nine RBIs and a 1.130 slugging percentage in his first six games with the Dodgers, but the team has won only three games in the first stage of Manny Mania. The Dodgers expect to have their opening-day starter back for the series opener at San Francisco tonight. Righthander Brad Penny's return ranks well below Ramirez's arrival on the sizzle chart, but it will be a significant moment for the Dodgers. "His ability and experience certainly could give us a lift," manager Joe Torre said. Penny has been on the disabled list since mid-June because of bursitis and tendinitis in his right shoulder.
