Game 28: Yanks (minus A-Rod) vs. Tigers

6:11 p.m.: News Alert! The Yankees sent Alex Rodriguez for an MRI on his strained right quadriceps before tonight’s game “to see what, if anything, we’re dealing with,” according to GM Brian Cashman. “We want to get it right.” Rodriguez, will not be in the lineup tonight, replaced at third by Morgan Ensberg and in the cleanup spot by Hideki Matsui. Joe Girardi remained optimistic about the injury, but that’s the Yankee way, isn’t it? Before Cashman revealed A-Rod went for an MRI, Girardi said of Rodriguez, “He’s going to get a day here. We’ll see how he is tomorrow. He’s not where he needs to be. We have to make sure he doesn’t get hurt seriously.” Later, Girardi added, “It might be two days, but I’m not under the impression that it’s going to be long…I don’t think he made it worse and I don’t think it’s as bad as it was in the beginning, but it’s not where we want it to be.” We’ll see what the MRI says. - by Anthony McCarron  ...
