Game 34: Yanks (and a lot of new faces) vs. Tribe

4:51 p.m.: Back from a few days off and things are pretty much the same as when I left. Well, other than all the players in the clubhouse that weren’t here on Thursday. Wilson Betemit was the latest player to return to the clubhouse, coming off the disabled list today after missing a few weeks with a bad case of pink eye. Betemit will start at third base tonight, and it appears Joe Girardi is planning on using a Betemit-Morgan Ensberg platoon until Alex Rodriguez comes back. Speaking of A-Rod, he will begin doing some physical activity tomorrow and he remains hopeful that he can be back when his 15-day stint on the DL is up. I doubt he’ll be back that soon, though it’s hard to count him out given his work ethic and conditioning. Girardi also informed us that Kei Igawa will likely get the ball on Friday, with Darrell Rasner starting Saturday. That will break up lefties Igawa and Andy Pettitte from pitching on consecutive days, which seemed to be the reason for giving Rasner the extra day ... (link)
