Alex Rodriguez’s week finally got a little better.
First, he earned his 12th trip to the All-Star Game, voted to start at third base by the fans. He was the leading vote-getter among all players for the second straight year.
Then, just moments ago, A-Rod lined a solo home run down the left-field line, giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead against Tim Wakefield and the Red Sox. For that moment, all of this stuff that’s been splashed on the front page about his personal life was nowhere to be found.
More notable was that it was Rodriguez’s 536th career home run, tying him with none other than Mickey Mantle on baseball’s all-time list. A-Rod received a huge ovation from the sellout crowd, prompting him to come out for a curtain call. The fan standing directly over the dugout where A-Rod came out was even wearing a Mantle No. 7 shirt.

Replay Revealing
redsoxrealitycheck.blogspot.com 7/7/2008 — Shows how much tennis I watch (almost none)...the replay at Wimbledon was stunning in its simplicity and accuracy. And as the Red Sox fritter away another late inning lead, Julio Lugo couldn't even knock down a 99-hopper up the middle by the Yankee newboy. No matter, as Cano was about 30 feet from home plate anyway, and there's NO WAY Lugo throws him out from his knees sprawling to his left. ...
Varitek? Tejada? All-Star Game rosters somewhat of a mess - MLB
insider.espn.go.com 7/7/2008 — The All-Star rosters are always fodder for arguments -- who was snubbed, who doesn't belong -- but some of the picks are more ridiculous than others. Here's a rundown of the least defensible selections, starting with the worst one I can remember. Note ...
