The Giants’ second-round selection (63rd overall) was a bit of a surprise: USC cornerback Terrell Thomas.
Thomas is a 6-1, 200-pounder who has average speed but is considered a tough and aggressive tackler. In fact, because of that skill, some have projected him as a safety in the NFL. Not the Giants, though. Scouting director Marc Ross said “We like him as a corner.”
“Terrell’s got excellent size for a corner,” Ross said. “He’s a top-notch athlete, a big, fast corner who’s been productive.”
The biggest concern about him, though, is his health. He redshirted in 2003 after needing surgery to repair a dislocated right shoulder. He missed most of the 2005 season after tearing his right ACL. And he had surgery to repair a dislocated left shoulder before last season, though he ended up playing in all 13 games and had four interceptions.
Ross said Giants trainer Ronnie Barnes gave Thomas the medical OK, and that was good enough for ...
