Giants, 'Skins will kickoff NFL season

 
I know, I know … I’m on vacation. But I thought you’d be interested in this: The defending Super Bowl champions will open the season against the Washington Redskins on Thursday night, Sept. 4, at Giants Stadium. The news was first broken by the Washington Post , but our NFL columnist Gary Myers was able to confirm that it’s true. I trust the Washington Post, but the news came as a bit of a surprise since most people I know inside the Giants organization had been assuming their opener would be against the Dallas Cowboys. Now, it’s a safe bet that at least one Giants-Cowboys game will be a prime-time affair, and that certainly would’ve been an attractive opener given the three terrific games they played against each other last season. But it looks like when the official announcement is made on Monday, it’ll be the Redskins instead.
