Grading the draft

 
You’ve heard this a thousand times: It takes at least three years to accurately grade a draft. Well, if all the football writers and analysts waited that long, we’d all be out of jobs. The grades on the 2008 already are in, and here’s how the Jets fared, based on publications and football Web sites: ESPN (Mel Kiper, Jr.) — B-minus USA Today — C Yahoo — C Fox Sports — B CBS Sports Line — C-plus Fort Worth Star Telegram — C-minus Kansas City Star — B Orlando Sentinel — C-plus Football’s Future.com — C NY Daily News — C-plus When it comes right down to it, who really knows? The Jets were widely hailed for their 2004 draft (the Jonathan Vilma year), and only one of those 10 picks remains on the roster - WR Jerricho Cotchery. In 2005, the Jets had eight picks, only one of whom is starting - S Kerry Rhodes. The 2006 draft produced LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson, C Nick Mangold and perhaps QB ... [link]
