Holy Schmidt! Mets aren't choking this year

 
I don’t like to make guarantees, but I guarantee this - the Mets aren’t blowing a 7-game lead with 17 to play this year. That’s because the Mets won’t have a 7-game lead. There are two strong teams in the NL East, and if the Phillies end up winning the division, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Mets will have choked. Brett Myers has been lights out since coming back from the minors. Losing to him is not choking. How about Mike Pelfrey, who could have been dumped last year in the Santana trade, almost matching him zero for zero until Greg Dobbs’ homer in the seventh. Even after last night’s loss, the Mets have beaten the Phillies 10 of 16 this year. And the Mets are still in first by two games. In fact, if you take away the Met-Phillie games this year, the Phillies would be in first by two games. So one could say the Mets are in first by virtue of their head-to-head record against the Phillies. Last year, the Mets lost several games down the stretch ... (link)
