Apparently, Marian Hossa thinks the Detroit Red Wings have a pretty good chance to repeat as Stanley Cup champions. And the chance to join them clearly means a lot more to him than the chance to ensure that he would be one of the NHL’s highest-paid players for the rest of his career - or to take a shot at skating with Scott Gomez on Broadway.
Turning down far more lucrative offers elsewhere - including a whopper from Edmonton and a competitive deal from the Rangers - Hossa opted for a one-year contract with Detroit. Yes, it’s for $7.4 million, which is hardly the NHL minimum. Still, Hossa joined the significant list of big names willing to take less to play for the Red Wings.
Is there anybody alive out there who still is willing to do such a thing to play for the Rangers?
Jaromir Jagr, Mats Sundin and Markus Naslund, you’re on the clock.
