RAYS AT WHITE SOX, GAME 3, 4:07 P.M.
RAYS LEAD SERIES, 2-0
Tampa Bay: Matt Garza (11-9, 3.70)
The 24-year-old righthander was 0-2 with a 4.73 ERA in five starts in September after throwing an average of 114.3 pitches in his last three starts of August. Perhaps a break - Garza last pitched on September 27 - will help a pitcher who was 2-0 with a 3.23 ERA on six-plus days' rest this season. Garza did not face the White Sox this season, but started against them twice last year with the Twins, going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA. He's got to watch out for Paul Konerko, who is 3-for-5 against Garza with a homer, and for early nerves - opponents hit a season-high .258 against Garza in the first through third innings, and he issued 30 of his 59 walks for the season in the first three frames.

A wetter field could benefit White Sox —
chicagotribune.com - Sports 10/4/2008
