Jaguars Bet Big on Jerry Porter: Good, Bad or Just Plain Ugly?

 
Jacksonville QB David Garrard may not be without a decent WR for much longer, seeing as the team made the decision to pick up Jerry Porter, former Oakland Raider, in free agency. Jerry Porter, whose 2007 season was a bad combination of team rule violations and arguments with Art Shell, has fallen off of many peoples radar in the last few years after having a mediocre run in his last three seasons. Although he possesses big play ability and decent speed, he was unable to turn two near 1000 yard seasons in Oakland into paydirt. Whether or not he will be able to assist Jacksonville's sub-par receiving corp remains to be seen, but he will provide a much needed veteran presence at that position, something the Jaguars have lacked ever since star WR Jimmy Smith retired. The Jaguars drafted Matt Jones and Ernest Wilford to be their WR's of the future, but neither Jones nor Wilford was able to produce and both players were released this off season. In the ... (link)
