Jason Bay: Boston Red Sox Savior By the Numbers

 
Woah, hold on there. Jason Bay is a far worse player than Manny Ramirez? Not if the stats have their say. Before the big trade on July 31, Jason Bay had 22 HR and 64 RBI while Manny Ramirez had 20 HR and 68 RBI. Also, Bay had stolen 7 bases as opposed to Manny's 1 stolen base. Bay had 2 more homers and 4 less RBI on the Pirates, one of the worst offensive teams in the league. With the Red Sox, Bay will have plenty more opportunities for RBI and the Green Monster will surely help pad his HR total. With these numbers, I'd say Bay is just as good, if not better than Manny Ramirez. Let's look at two more numbers. The first number is $7.5 million. That's how much Bay will be making next year as opposed to the $20 million that Manny's option was for. That extra $12.5 million in salary will allow the Red Sox to go out and sign a quality player, such as C.C. Sabathia or Mark Teixeira in the offseason. The second number is 30.
