Jets punt Kapinos
It didn’t take long for P Ben Graham to defeat his first challenger in 2008. Jeremy Kapinos? He’s outta here. Next?
In a mild surprise, the Jets today waived Kapinos, who replaced Graham for one game last season and seemed to be mounting a decent fight in the offseason for the punting job. Apparently, the organization had other ideas. They signed Joe Smith (no, not the Mets reliever), who - are you ready for this? - spent the last three seasons in the Evergreen Football Semi-Pro League. Hey, he was the league special teams MVP in 2007. When a punter like Smith comes along, you have to jump on him. Actually, Smith punted collegiately at Central Washington, where he posted a whole bunch of impressive numbers in 2003. Yes, 2003!
Strahan retires from the Giants, Kapinos gets released from the Jets - pretty much the same news value, wouldn’t you say?
